Regional metal market of system sales 2020 and 2025
AMER and EMEA lead in machine sales revenue, APAC in units
In 2020, AMER is even with EMEA in terms of revenue through machine sales at EUR 0.31 billion each. However, both regions reported lower total machine sales revenue compared to the previous year with a decline of about -18 % in AMER and about -22 % in EMEA. In 2025, suppliers expect the three regions to reach system sales revenues of EUR 1.04 billion for AMER, EUR 1.00 billion for EMEA and EUR 0.78 billion for APAC.
The revenue in AMER region continues to be dominated by the USA with 87 % of the total market. This share is expected to drop to 83 % in 2025. Especially increasing activities reported from South America will lead to further adoption of AM technology in this area and consequently the loss of share in the USA. Overall, suppliers expect that the system sales in the AMER region will increase by 27.8 % per year until 2025.
The machine sales in EMEA region are evenly distributed over the main national economies. About half of the systems in EMEA were sold to users in the countries of Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy and Spain. The other countries in EMEA make up for approximately 51 %. Vendors of systems predict an annual growth of 26.3 % until 2025.
With a revenue of EUR 0.27 billion in systems sales, APAC region reported an overall decrease of about -4 % to the previous year. All together 761 AM units were sold in APAC with entities from China responsible for almost 60 % of these purchases. Until 2025, the share of China will decrease to about 55 %. Japan, today at 12 %, will jump to 14 % of the sales revenue in APAC region. The overall revenue CAGR for APAC region is estimated by the suppliers at 22.8 %, surprisingly considerably lower than for the markets of AMER or EMEA.
Despite a share of only approximately 31 % of the system sales revenue, APAC led in sold AM units in 2020. Of all installed machine, 761 or 38 % were going to the APAC region. However, the average machine price per unit sold substantially differs from region to region. In AMER the average machine price is highest at above EUR 0.5 million. This market invests primarily into larger, higher priced machines with high productivity. APAC has, in comparison, the lowest unit price. Many of the Chinese machine OEMs sell predominantly within their own country. Machines sold within China often use local system components such as laser beam sources that come at a reduced price.
